1 Following information are here for development purposes and may not 2 reflect the current state of any Ring client. 3 4 Introducing scenario 5 -------------------- 6 7 Let's explain banned contacts with a simple scenario: 8 9 Alice and Jessica are friends, and like all good friends do, they use 10 Ring to communicate. They are both Ring contact of each other, so Alice 11 is a contact of Jessica and Jessica is a contact of Alice. Some day 12 however, Jessica does something really bad to Alice and Alice doesn't 13 want to hear from her anymore. Instead of removing Jessica from her Ring 14 contacts -- which would still allow Jessica to send her contact 15 requests, Alice *bans* Jessica. 16 17 **So, what does it mean ?** 18 19 In the daemon 20 ------------- 21 22 Jessica *won't be notified that she was banned by Alice*. 23 24 As a *banned contact* of Alice, Jessica *won't be allowed to contact her 25 anymore*, in any way. Text messages, voice or video calls won't be 26 acknowledged or answered in any way. Alice won't even be aware that 27 Jessica tried to contact her. 28 29 Banned contacts are synched across linked devices like other contacts. 30 31 In Jami clients (recommended implementation) 32 -------------------------------------------- 33 34 As long as Jessica is a banned contact, the conversation with Jessica 35 doesn't appears in the conversations list. The conversation history, 36 however, is not deleted. Jessica appears in Alice' account banned 37 contact list. Alice might also find/open the conversation by performing 38 an exact search for Jessica' username. 39 40 Alice can un-ban Jessica from the conversation or the banned contact 41 list. 42 43 The search result and the conversation indicates Jessica' banned status. 44 Alice must unban Jessica to send her a message, call her or otherwise 45 interract with her. 46 47 Alice can still delete the conversation history using a *Delete History* 48 button.
